An Exciting Adventure at Mallorca Island Part II

When traveling, do you prefer visiting just a few sights? Or do you prefer exploring as many places as possible?

I love the excitement of exploring many sights, but I also enjoy being at a single place without having to rush my experience. In this adventure, I spent the first few days relaxing in Alcudia and the following days exploring the island.

Getting There

Exiting Alcudia was quite a challenge. The city was pouring rain, the streets were flooded, and the main roads to leave the city were closed.

I was forced to take the longer route and wait until police cleared the road exiting the city. Fortunately, our drive was only extended by about an hour.

It took me approximately two hours to arrive at Palma de Mallorca. It would’ve been a fifty-minute drive if it had not been raining.

Oldtown Apartment Rental

This time, I exchanged the nice and relaxing resort apartment for an adventurous and centrally located oldtown apartment.

I booked a nicely remodeled apartment on the third floor (In Europe that’s the fourth floor).

This would not have been an issue if it had an elevator, but every time I needed to enter or leave the apartment, I had to walk very long stairs. On the good side, though, I was close to many shops and great restaurants.

Oldtown Palma de Mallorca

I found it nearly impossible not to get lost in the beauty of the old town. It presented an astonishing colonial Spanish architecture, jaw-dropping gothic churches, an enormous town square, and a beautiful boulevard surrounded with large trees and shops.

Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma

This astonishing cathedral is another building influenced by Gaudi’s work. Its jaw-dropping height and design create a uniquely spiritual and peaceful atmosphere.

Valdemossa

I made a day trip to this gorgeous and intimate countryside village. It took me almost one hour to arrive from the old town. Luckily, finding parking required a little bit of patience to wait until someone left.

I walked through the charming cobblestone streets, admired the beautiful surrounding landscape and its architecture, and took some fun pictures.

Sant Elm Beach

After spending the morning and afternoon in Valdemossa, I drove over to Sant Elm. I took the alternative long route to capture amazing sea and cliffs views. This route, however, might not be for everyone. It is full of curves, slim roads, and can feel a bit scary driving so close to the end of the cliff.

I spent an amazing evening at this gorgeous beach. The light blue crystalline water, the calm waves, the peaceful environment, and the exceptional sunset made for an unforgettable evening.

Platja Cala Gran

Cala Gran beach, located southeast of the island, is approximately one hour away from Palma. There are multiple resorts and several avenues with restaurants and shops in this town.

The small beach is enclosed by surrounding a rocky coastal edge. The area might have been a little crowded, but that didn’t stop people from having fun. Everybody seemed to be having a great time jumping the high waves in the beach. I didn’t hesitate joining the fun gathering.

Platja es Trenc

Platja es Trenc, a beach located approximately 45 minutes away from Palma, requires driving through a narrow road and letting oncoming vehicles pass.

The beach boasts calm, beautiful, and light blue, shallow water. It was an amazing place to enjoy the sunset and have a peaceful time.

Port de Sóller

On the last day, after packing my luggage and eating breakfast, I visited Port de Soller. I did not want to miss this charming village with beachfront restaurants and shops.

Port de Soller is approximately 30 minutes away by car from Palma, but has the option of getting there faster by tram. But since I was driving straight to the airport afterwards, I choose to get there by car.

The beach, located at the harbor, offers spectacular views of the enclosing hills. The water, although not warm, was very calm and allowed me to see fishes swimming around my feet.

Final Thoughts

Whether you are looking to meditate at the beach, explore majestic oldtowns, or admire a peaceful countryside village, Mallorca has something for everyone.

There is an unlimited number of things to do in this seemingly small island.

I left fascinated by the beauty of Mallorca but also looking forward to the next adventure in Poland.
